Stay Dry Science: Tips from the Secret scientists on how to stay dry all day--and night

Recently Secret commissioned a study to learn more about how women are using products in the beauty industry. Here's what they learned, plus tips to help you stay dry all day (and night).

Touch Ups Required?

"What's interesting is that we know that a lot of women touch up their makeup throughout the day," says Secret Sweat Scientist Kati Bakes. "But we learned that is not the only thing they're reapplying."

Interestingly, one in four women are reapplying deodorant throughout the day. That's almost as many as the two in five that reapply lipstick!

Deo For Dating

Fast fact: The science team noticed a trend in what kinds of women were reapplying more often than others. In a not-so-surprising turn of events, it seems that women who are single, dating or engaged reapply more often than their married counterparts.

Why do these women feel the need to touch up their protection? They feel that their deodorant is fading; that their protection isn't holding up as is necessary, according to the Secret labs.

Smell-Good Secrets

Consider applying your deodorant at night, suggests Bakes. "By applying your deodorant at night you actually get better sweat protection than if you applied in the morning." The reason? Your sweating is consistent while you sleep, versus during the morning when you're trying to get the kids off to school or stressing out because you spilled coffee on yourself.

Another option? Choose a stronger product that you don't have to reapply as often; one with new technologies that deliver better efficiencies. "We in the Secret labs have been working for a long time on how to make better, stronger products. And one of the things we're excited about is that we've added Extend technology to our Outlast line," says the scientist. "That means more sweat and odor fighters in our products. We're also using a patented protection enhancer, which acts like a bridge that efficiently pulls out the active ingredients from the product into the skin. It gives you clinically better sweat protection than before," she says.
