Winter Runway Beauty Starts at Home

Begin with a healthy base from which beauty can bloom

You devoured all the New York Fashion Week coverage and you didn't miss one red carpet show this awards season, but knowing the latest beauty trends is only half the battle; to achieve them at home, it really is all about that base. That's B-A-S-E, for those in the know. Katrina Mitzeliotis, Fashion Director for HollywoodLife.com, explains, "We saw so many hot trends on the runways, from luminous skin and even bold lips... But what's most important is starting with a good health regimen, above any other trend."

And when it comes to beauty, it's the hair, skin and nails that provide the base on which you'll be building your beauty routine, so Katrina recommends taking an all-in-one vitamin that addresses all three. "I really like Nature's Bounty Optimal Solutions Hair, Skin & Nails. It's a multivitamin that you can take every day to improve the health and look of your skin, hair and nails," says Katrina. Why this vitamin in particular? Options! It's available in either softgels or gummies packed with 5,000 micrograms of important B Vitamins that support skin and hair health. "And they also encourage nail growth, starting at the base where growth begins," adds Katrina, "The softgel is the first formula of its kind in a multivitamin that has Hyaluronic Acid, Argan Oil and antioxidants, and it really specifically targets hair, skin and nail health which is really important this time of year." You can find it for anywhere from $8 to $17 at your local grocery store or drug store. And a bonus... "What's really cool is that Nature's Bounty invites you to take their 30-Day Challenge," explains Katrina, "If, in 30 days, you don't see a noticeable difference in your hair, skin or nails, they're offering a full refund."

And because a clean base is just as important as a healthy one, Katrina keeps cleansing cloths handy, especially when experimenting with new beauty trends. Her fave? Dickinson's Original Witch Hazel Daily Refreshingly Clean Cleansing Cloths. "They're extra large and ultra soft, making them ideal if you're removing makeup and great to use every day," says Katrina, "The key ingredient here [is] the botanical extracts: witch hazel and aloe. Many people don't know this, but witch hazel is actually beauty's best kept secret since 1866. And what does it do? It cleanses, tones, soothes and balances your skin." Another plus about these cleansing cloths is that those with ultra sensitive skin can use them (they're fragrance and soap free) without sacrificing the deep clean and pore-refining power they're looking for out of a cleansing cloth. Katrina explains, "It won't strip your skin, which is so important, while gently removing makeup, dirt and oils...and what I really love about them is that they don't leave any residue behind, so you don't have to rinse afterwards. You can just use and go." Even better, they come in a really cool and convenient vanity pack and are only $7, in Walgreens or select Walmart stores.

Now the fun can begin... "We saw so many hot looks on the runways. From smoky metallic shadows to bold eye liner to more dewy looks on the cheeks, and even bold lips," says Katrina, "The key here? It's all about contrast. So if you want to rock a cool bold matte red lip, then pair it with a shimmering lighter shadow. You don't want to overdo it. But if you're trying one of the really cool metallic eye shadows, opt for a neutral lip, another hot trend from the runways."
