Three and a half years ago, the now platinum-selling recording artist Andy Grammer was performing for passersby on Santa Monica's Third Street Promenade. But that was before being discovered by record producer Steve Greenberg and signing to S-Curve Records, where Grammer recorded his self-titled debut album, yielding hits such as "Keep Your Head Up" and "Fine By Me."
The rising pop star dropped by our offices to chat about his sophomore album "Magazines or Novels" and to perform his new hit, "Back Home".

The songwriter describes his latest album, which dropped last month, as "genuine and honest" and as his favorite piece of work yet.

"I love music because I think when it's done right, it's like an intensifier," says the musician, "It intensifies anything that you're feeling. It's one of the most amazing things on the planet."
Who did he grow up listening to? "Billy Joel, The Beatles, a lot of really quality songwriters. And then as I got older, I got really into John Mayer, Lauryn Hill...," he says.
It was around the age of 15 or 16 when Grammer started falling in love with songwriting. "The process of writing songs, and how kind of messy and gnarly and exciting [it is], and how far you can take someone in four minutes, is pretty cool," he says.
For his latest single "Back Home," Grammer wanted to make a music video as big as the song sounded, and where better to do that than at a Color Run. "Getting to sing that hook and have everyone throw the chalk, and just have this huge spectacle, was pretty incredible," says the singer.
What's next for Grammer? Getting his music out into the world and connecting with fans... "These days you're on Twitter, and right away people are tweeting their favorite lyrics," he says, "I love the response, and I'm having a lot of fun going back and forth with everybody."
