WWII Drama, 'Red Tails' Premiere Play

The premiere of 'Red Tails,' directed by George Lucas, was held at the Ziegfeld Theater in New York City.

The World War II drama was inspired by real life events and tells the inspiring story of the Tuskegee Airmen- the first group of African-American fighter pilots.

Cuba Gooding Jr., plays Major Emanuelle Stance. “It’s a page in African-American history that people abroad don’t know about,” he says.

The film depicts U.S. pilots that are suddenly called to serve, after being mostly on the ground.

“It was an untold story, these men were like angels, they never glorified themselves,” says Terrance Howard, who stars as Col. A.J. Bullard in the movie.

Celeb supporters included, Samuel L. Jackson, James Earl Jones, Method Man, Spike Lee, Ne-Yo, Tristan Wilds, Tia Mowry and Tika Sumpter. Also in attendance…some real-life airmen!

The film hits theaters January 20th
