Actor John Slattery partnered with Duracell in New York City this week to launch their "stay connected" initiative, to help the 48 million Americans who experience hearing loss.

"It is a cause that is close to my heart and I'm very happy to be here to partner with Duracell to shine a light on it," says Slattery.

"Our goal is to reach everyone with hearing loss but in particular two groups." says Bill De Groot, Assistant Brand Manager, Duracell, "...first the group that does not seek treatment. That 23 million people that 80% of people over the age of 65 that have hearing loss that don't seek treatment. We are also trying to reach those that have sought treatment and currently wear hearing aids. We want to encourage them to trust Duracell to power moments that matter to them because Duracell batteries are long lasting."

Slattery whose father suffered from hearing loss knows firsthand how it can affect a person and their family and also the life-changing benefits that come when finally receiving treatment.

"His quality of life is better. Everything is much easier for him now and he is so much more engaged," he says, "He only uses Duracell to power his hearing aid because he trust them to work when it really matters and he doesn't want to miss out on his life with us."

Untreated hearing loss can lead to isolation, depression, dementia, and Alzheimer's disease. It also has far reaching effects on loved ones too who feel their family member is slowly disconnecting from them and life and missing out on key moments as depicted in this heartfelt film narrated by Slattery.

"We want to ensure that people with hearing loss stay connected with their love ones and not miss out on those key moments in life," says De Groot, "To help people take the first step towards staying connected Duracell is offering 50,000 free hearing screenings throughout the month of May."
