Clean faster and better with time-saving innovations

Just because we love Spring Cleaning at LifeMinute doesn't mean we want to spend all of our time doing it. If only there were a robot that could get the job done... Well, the good news is, Lifestyle Expert Carley Knobloch says there are several technological innovations that will feed your need for speed when it comes to efficient Spring Cleaning this season and yes, robots are one of them.

"The first thing I do when I have a nasty job I don't want to do, especially a cleaning job, I look to robots to help me out," says Carley, "There are a lot of exciting innovations in the robot space: robots that will do everything from clean your grill outside on your barbecue, to clear all of the debris out of your gutters, to even cleaning your bathroom floor or your windows. So that's a surefire way to save time by getting a robot to do the job for you."

But if there isn't room for a 'bot in your budget, Carley suggests investing in a High Efficiency washing machine -- with a 40% larger drum than older models, a HE washer means you can get more laundry done in less time. But detergent matters when it comes to these newer machines. "You definitely need to make sure you're using the right detergent for it. Tide HE Turbo Clean has been completely optimized for HE machines, and it's got low sudsing technology which is great for them because, of course, they use a lot less water to rinse your clothes. You also need to make sure the dosing is just right so the cap has been designed to really help you figure out exactly how much detergent you need for the clothes that you're washing so that you put in the right amount of detergent and get the best results from that machine."

Other things that you can do to speed up the Spring Cleaning process? Pack up anything you don't need right now. "Get all of your winter clothes into storage," Carley explains, "And it's really important that you wash all those clothes before you put them away because any soil or any fragrances that are on all of your winter clothes are going to attract bugs when they're in storage." She recommends giving everything a good wash and packing garments in an airtight container with cedar flakes or cedar balls. "Those are a natural bug repellant," says Carley, "And then everything will look just as good going out as it did going in."

Lastly, the kitchen... "Clean out that refrigerator by pulling everything out, making sure those drawers are clean but also behind the drawers are clean," says Carley. And, wash your dishwasher. That's right, our appliances need some TLC if we want to keep them running for the long run. "People don't tend to think about cleaning their dishwasher, not just the outside of it but the inside," Carley explains, "So, using a dishwasher cleaner is just as easy as running it while your dishes are inside...you're going to make sure you prolong the life of that appliance."
