Creativity isn’t an easy thing to come by, but there may be ways to help fuel it. Consider these tips to fill your tank.

Strut Your Stuff
A study by researchers from Stanford University found that walking increases creative inspiration. The researchers examined the creativity levels of people while they walked and remained seated. A person’s creative output increased by an average of 60 percent when walking.

Meditate On It
Meditation has been shown to help reduce stress, increase self-awareness, and improve focus. But research also indicates that certain types of meditation are linked to increased creative thinking. One study found using open monitoring meditation, where individuals are receptive to all thoughts and sensations without focusing on any particular object or idea, can increase divergent thinking and generate new ideas.

Daydream
Some science suggests daydreaming and creativity have similar cognitive processes and neural basis. Rather than being a time drain, mind-wandering freely to more pleasant thoughts may improve your mood and be a source of creative ideas.

Stand in Someone Else’s Shoes
Ask questions, and talk to people with different life experiences and worldviews. Or watch or read an opinion by someone you don’t necessarily agree with. Looking at things from a different angle or taking the perspective of others may fuel your creativity in unique ways, possibly inspiring an “aha moment.”
