Actor James Ransone dies at 46 from suicide
James Ransone, the acclaimed actor known for his memorable performances in The Wire, It: Chapter Two, Generation Kill, and many other film and television roles, has taken his own life at the age of 46. According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office, Ransone died on Friday, December 19, in Los Angeles, with his passing ruled a suicide. He rose to fame portraying Ziggy Sobotka in The Wire’s second season and went on to build a diverse career in horror films like The Black Phone, dramas like Bosch, and projects across genres over more than two decades. A native of Baltimore, Ransone was also known for his openness about personal struggles, including addiction and past trauma, and was celebrated for bringing depth and humanity to complex characters. He is survived by his wife, Jamie McPhee, and their two children. Tributes have poured in from fans and colleagues mourning the loss of the talented actor and beloved figure in the entertainment community
