Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson returning for Hunger Games prequel
In an exciting announcement for fans, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, the upcoming prequel from Lionsgate. Based on Suzanne Collins’ latest novel, the film explores the events of the 50th Hunger Games—24 years before Katniss and Peeta first stepped into the arena as District 12’s tributes under the mentorship of Haymitch Abernathy. Because the story is set decades prior to the original series, Lawrence and Hutcherson will appear in a flash-forward epilogue. They join Joseph Zada, who stars as a young Haymitch Abernathy, alongside an impressive ensemble cast that includes Ralph Fiennes, Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, Jesse Plemons, Maya Hawke, and Mckenna Grace. The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping hits theaters on November 20, 2026.
